CMU Men Sweep the Podium in Classic Sprint at Snow Mountain Ranch

January 26, 2025 — Granby, CO

In one of the most dominant performances in team history, the Colorado Mesa University Cross Country Ski Team swept the men's podium in Sunday’s classic sprint at the USCSA Ski Racing Festival, hosted at Snow Mountain Ranch. The result capped off a weekend that was already a major milestone for CMU—not only as racers but as event organizers of the largest youth Nordic race in Colorado.

The classic sprint, held on January 26, was the second day of the festival and delivered edge-of-your-seat excitement as CMU skiers Iver Skaarseth, Garret Moehring, and Wesley Sumner stormed through the heats and into the finals, ultimately finishing 1-2-3.

Men’s Classic Sprint Results:

  • 🥇 Iver Skaarseth – 3:19.7
  • 🥈 Garret Moehring – 3:46.6
  • 🥉 Wesley Sumner – 3:50.3

This second day of racing followed Saturday’s 15K skate race, which also saw strong finishes from CMU athletes, including a first-place overall from Skaarseth and a silver medal performance from Jayna Boonstra in the women's field.

The entire weekend was made possible through the generous support of the Nordic Center at YMCA of the Rockies – Snow Mountain Ranch and the Grand County Colorado Tourism Board. Their contributions brought together over 300 skiers, spanning middle schoolers to collegiate racers from eight universities across Colorado and Wyoming.

The classic sprint was a true showcase of CMU’s depth, grit, and rising influence in the USCSA Rocky Mountain Conference.
